                                                                                                                        Somewhere at sea

Dear Pauline-

We were told we could write another letter so here goes. I don’t know if we are sailing straight or in circles. I never saw so much sky and water at one time as far as the eye can see. I haven’t seen any pretty sunrises or sunsets worth mentioning. It was [censored] before I saw land and they were a couple of [censored]. I almost strained my eyes trying to get a glimpse at some of them [censored] running around on the loose. All I’ve seen was three porpoise diving out at the water and [censored letter].

I had the diarrhea the last few days and felt kind of weak, I am glad the sea didn’t come up and hit me in the face or I would have felt like somebody slipped me a Mickey Finn. Uncle Sam paid me part of my wages yesterday and I wish I could go some place and order me a – bone steak or fried pork chops with American fried potatoes. I sent ma a gift when I was in Fort Monroe, Va. I hope she received it. I wish we could have stayed a few days, so I could look the camp and town over. It rained all day and we left that night by steamer across the Chesapeake Bay for Fort Dix N.J.

While at Fort Dix I sent some more gifts home, if you received them, write and let me know- and let me know if you received all them packages from Detroit and if you got the Battery picture – my army discharge and the other papers I sent along. Before we left Fort Dix I had a shot in the arm for [censored] and out Battery Commander and one of the lieutenants popped for some beer for the boys.- On the way to [censored]  we stopped at New Haven, Connecticut where some U.S.O. girls gave us some coffee, doughnuts, and cigarettes. Well, Pauline until the next letter, best wishes and best of health to all- Your bro.
