Dear Mom and Pop:

I just received your letter and thought I would answer it right away. I’m in a sort of a convalescence ward now, and am feeling fine. As you know I was an up patient for about five days and then got a fever and went back to bed. They shot 20 shots of Penicillin in my butt and boy it’s really sore when I sit down. Penicillin is really the stud though. It makes you well in no time.

If I’m lucky I might be home for Christmas, but don’t count on it. I may not get home at all. Well Mom, take care of yourself, and tell Pop to take care of himself. There’s an awful lot of Flu and Scarlet Fever going around. For awhile they thought I had Scarlet Fever, but I didn’t. Well I guess I’ll close now. All my love.

Alfred

P.S. I have a new ward no # 863
