Dear Mom and Pop:

I was just sitting here in the office tonight and thought I would write when I had the chance to.  I wrote a letter to Aunt Flora today and I hope she gets it.

Well how is everything?  Did Pop get back to work yet?  I got paid today, but only 20 dollars.  I have 110 dollars on the books, but we’re only allowed to draw $20 a month on board ship.  As soon as I get back to the states my account will be all cleared.  I think I told you before, I expect to get a 14 day leave either before I report to Washington or after.  It doesn’t make much difference to me as long as I get home.  You can’t write a very interesting letter out here when you’re just sitting here off Bikini Island.  Nothing happens much, outside of the explosion we had on the 25th of July.  After the explosion all you have is work to do.  When I get home again I’ll bend your ears till 2 o’clock in the morning (ha,ha).

Another thing happened.  I’m starting to go to the dentist again.  I thought I was through, but I guess I never will be.  A big filling dropped out, and he thought he would have to pull it.  But, he saved it.  I’m sure glad of that.

Well there’s not much more to write about so I’ll close now.  Take care of yourselves, and don’t worry.  All my love.

Alfred
