Belsin Atall

7 August 1946

Dear Mom and Pop:

I just received two letters from you today.

I’m sure I’ll be home now.  We’ll be leaving Belsin about the 14th of this month.  I’m putting 14 days leave before I report in to Washington.

The reason they transferred me from the Mc kinley was because they had too many yeoman on there and not enough on the Kenneth Whiting.  By the way Av-14 means it’s a seaplane tender.  Although now it’s being used for the use recovering instruments on target ships.

I haven’t had a chance to go to church service as we were so busy gutting and report on the home tent.  The Chaplain on board here is a wonderful man.  Sometimes he even eats chow with the enlisted men.  He talks to every one he meets in the passageway and he even stands in line with the men.  During the second bomb test he let me look through his binoculars to see the bomb burst.

I can’t get any of those Belsin stamps.  They were for the first alone bomb test, and I’m sorry to say I wasn’t here for it.  I’d have a short-snorter will from Belsin.  That’s something any way.  Well mom and pop I’ll say goodnite.  All my love, Alfred.

P.S. When I say Washington I mean D.C.
