My dearest Hal,

Today is the first day of spring according to the calendar but never the less snow is coming down just as hard as it can.  It started about the time we came home from church and is still snowing now at dark.

Yesterday, I had such a nice long letter from you with the money orders for $300.00.  I am always so thrilled when you can send home some money.  I think you have done wonderfully well.  We now have five bonds or $4000.00 invested in five $1000.00 bonds.  You sent home $250.00 in Dec., $400.00 in Jan. and I took $100.00 out of my allowance in Feb. to buy the fifth bond.  That means I saved $100 in Feb.  You sent me $200.00 in Feb. and $300.00 in Mar., which means we have $500.00 of yours in the bank.  I will send you a statement for March but don’t expect much as I have paid Dr. Blanton the rest of his bill, $20.00 more.  Dr. Blanton told me I would have to get a vacuum cleaner before I really get any relief from the dust.  I finally got one though I had some trouble in finding one.  I paid $45.00 for that.  Nana was very anxious for me to get one as she said Dr. Pearsans told her that many people there have T.B. as a result of sinus or hay fever causing an imitation.  I am better and I hope with the cleaner I can improve even more.  I certainly am anxious to know if Sam will have hay fever during ragweed season.

                                                                                                All my love,

No. 2

Hal dearest,

Since I can only write you now on V forms I’ll just have to use two as one is not half enough space.  I just have to tell you how very much Sam and I like the rug.  We are both perfectly crazy about it.  Everyone who has seen it thinks it is lovely.  Sam loves to play on it and says he hopes you will send us a lot more.  I am so delighted to have this one. I hate to ask for more but I sincerely hope you will buy some more.  Will the other one you bought go with the one I have?  You know nothing will go with Persian rugs except more Persian rugs.  Any other rugs would probably look cheap by comparison.  If we have a fairly large living room we really would need two like this.  I mean the same general pattern and colors.  I think I’ve been told that no two are ever exactly alike.  One for your den would be nice don’t you think so?  They would be lovely as bedroom rugs, so lovely and soft to step out on.  Darling, to think of being able to buy such rugs for the price you pay and then to send them in duty free.  I have always dreamed of having something this nice, but I never ever expected to really own such things.  I would gladly trade everything you’ve sent if only I could have you safely home.  Nothing in this world can ever seem important in comparison with your safety.  Darling, I miss you more and more, the time seems as long, but, I hope every day you’ll come home that much nearer.  Take care of yourself.

                                                                                                All my love,
