Dearest Hal—I got my first letter from Billy today from Africa and was I glad to hear from him.  So far he seems quite happy.  Two of the boys he went to school with were his roommates on the boat (incidentally 60 of his class at Davis went to Edwards).  I don’t know how many are with him now.  I am wondering how you and Billy will write to each other, but can’t figure it out.  His address that we use is APO 4015-K.W.  He did not tell the date he landed but wrote Feb 21st.  Well, good luck to him.

Elizabeth came up to see me yesterday and stayed all day.  Two men whose wives are on this hall and a woman whose mother is have come together.

Sara came today when I was not looking for her.  She drove Mrs. Roudolph over to see a ? hospital.  Sam has rented her house to a Maj. Biggs who is an engineer at the new hospital and is boarding with Miss Josie W. until she decides on the next move.  Things are so uncertain that it is hard for anyone to know what plans to make.

I am feeling better this last week than I have for such a long time.  A week ago I had a big hard lump on my side that hurt me a lot.  It is an enlargement of the lymphatic gland.  I am taking X-ray treatments at the hospital every 3 weeks for it.  I have taken two so far.  It opened up a few days ago and was full of pus—feels better now.  Elizabeth seemed to enjoy Sam and Page’s visit—said Sam said his prayers and said “God bless Nana” twice, and afterwards explained, “I did that cause Nana is sick.”  Billy claimed me as a dependent, for which I am grateful and I can get along without yours now so I’ll tell Page.  I have not gotten any yet from Bill but may soon.  I’m not there yet but my paper is.
