Dearest Hal – The girls are having a little party tonight with three tables of bridge.  Page came and brought me in some pictures of you that I have been enjoying looking at.  In many of them you are standing with your feet spread apart and I thought of how that was a characteristic of my father, especially if he was standing talking to someone.  We are very excited over the prospects of having you home.  I do hope that nothing will happen to disappoint us.  Page says that each time the door bell rings Sam flies to the door to see if it might be you.  You said that you had not heard from Billy lately.  His letters have probably gone astray.  We have heard from him nearly every week.  He says he is feeling fine.  He’s not even had a cold.  Says he got his name in Star & Stripes as his entry got a direct hit on a German Falk Hulf(?) [Focke-Wulf] bomber and blew it clean up.  It was 4 miles away going 350 miles an hour.  We have not heard from Sam since week before last so I fear he is gone.  I surely feel worried about him but there is nothing I can do. His address is PHSCU3467347TAPO -14139-A of P.M. San Francisco Cal.  From the giggles going on downstairs they seem to be having a fine time.  So Sambo is going to school.  Lots of love to you. Mother
