Tuesday Night

My dearest Hal,

It stopped raining but now it has turned cold again. How I wish spring would come! I could stop firing the furnace; I could raise the chickens; I could plant the garden and then maybe I’d be able to come and see you for a change. It will be quite a while I’m afraid before I can move down there permanently but I am planning to spend as much time there as I can.

I had to go up to school today to see about the Red Cross and I had a chance to have a long talk with Miss Campbell. She says Sam’s reading shows definite improvement since he has been working on it at home. I do hope he will make his grade. I don’t think I could stand to have him fail in his work this year or any year for that matter.

Tonight Sam and I went up to take our shots from Dr. Thomas. I certainly do get tired of taking them but I guess I’ll always have to do some of it. This is better than having the sniffles. Have you noticed a very big difference since you came home?

I think this is the night you said you were going to see Scott and Knobby. I hope you had a pleasant time.

I can’t hope you will have very much fun cause I’m not having any fun at all without you. If only there were not so many things to keep us apart. I feel like getting on the train tomorrow and coming down there. Just wonder if I’d dare take Sam out of school and put him in one down there. If he failed I’d always blame myself for being so selfish so there you are.

When do you think you’ll get your Bronze Star? Don’t forget I want to be on hand to help you celebrate that wonderful event. Please be sure to let me know in plenty of time.

                                                                        All my love,
