Dearest Sweetheart:

Just got home from your father and took a bath and feel very refreshed and I can write my Hubby’s letter. Received a letter from you today. Was I ever happy then! This one took quite a while to get here-almost 2 weeks. That is quite long compared to the usual length of time. I just can’t understand why my mail should be held up for more than a day or so. Don’t you worry now, Darling, that I’m not writing to you. I do hope all those that are missing in between those you have already received will have reached you by now. I wonder where they are held up here, at our branch of post office or up in California. Won’t we be glad when the day will be here when we won’t have to wait for letters? We’ll be together and we’ll be able to tell each other in person whatever is in our hearts.

How I am waiting, Dearest! We had a nice little gathering at your father’s tonight. Aunt Ellen and Uncle Ernie came over.

I stopped at the florists and got a small corsage consisting of Aster and Red Roses. Your Mom got all dressed up and I combed her hair fancy and she pinned her corsage on her dress.  My love, how I wished you were there with me- I kept thinking of that all evening. I sincerely hope this won’t be for long and then you’ll be among all the social gatherings. Honey how did you happen to know you were soon to get a stripe?  Are they going to wake up to the fact you should have been rewarded a long time ago? I am very proud of you, Darling. Keep up the good work.

I was surprised to hear you were being transferred again. The Army never wants to keep a guy very long, does it?

I’m praying every night, Darling, for your homecoming. Do you get any encouragement regarding this? It dawned on me today that I may be all wrong about the number of battle stars that are credited to you. Do all the battles in the Philippines count as one battle star?

Could you set me straight Dearest?

Honey it’s late and I must get to bed. I will finish your answers tomorrow. Let’s keep hoping, My Sweet. One of these days we’ll be getting together permanently. Please, God, make it soon. Good Luck Dearest- All my love to you alone-

Your Baby,

“Kiss”

Emily
