Sept. 19 Wednesday
#219
Hi Darling Sweet:
Just got home from Ruth Bowwman’s house where a cosmetic
demonstration was given. Your Mom came with me. It was nice and I met some very
nice girls. Ordine asked me to say “hello” to you, Honey. It poured quite a bit
while we were there but luckily it stopped while we were going home.
Today was the day I took Your Mom, My Mom, Ella and Emma out
to lunch and then to a show. We had a luncheon at Carter’s and then to the
Chicago Theatre where a goofy show was playing but I know the Mamas don’t get
to see stage shows very often and that’s why we went there. I think everyone
enjoyed themselves. Lydia
could not come along because of her “condition.” Honey, the other night when I
was at Freda’s I heard some very surprising news, the shock of which I still
haven’t overcome. Sunny at the office is getting a divorce!! Her husband has
been drinking a lot and since his job as motorman on the Surfare lines involved
odd hours, Sunny didn’t realize what was going on. Before her husband left for
the service, he did drink quite a bit but now with Malaria attacks, he’s got to
watch his step and since he’s getting reckless, Sunny is getting to be a
nervous wreck. About a week ago Sunny tried to give me a “pep” talk about how
to treat your husband after he comes back. I disagreed on a few points and now
I’m thoroughly convinced I was correct. The pity of it all, they just bought
the furniture for 4 rooms and it took all of their savings – now they will have
to sell the furniture. Ella told me all this, Honey. We’re just hoping Sunny
will stand firmly on her feet and not be swayed by him again, though he’s so
clever at it. He wanted her to have a baby immediately after he came back from
the Pacific to find out whether he was sterile. The entire situation adds up to
this: He has no intention of making a future for his Wife and himself. If he
was the right type of fellow, a place of your own, a baby and all is wonderful
for a girl. I imagine I will get to hear more from Sunny herself when I get
back to the office. He has been trying to annoy her at the office. Sunny is
staying at her Cousin’s house. It’s a shame, isn’t it, Sweetheart? Ella is
getting to look like a real ‘Mama-to-be’. She can’t stand on her feet too much.
She misses her Hubby so much. I’m glad I asked her to come along today.
Honey, I pulled a stupid trick last night. I wrote your
letter last night and after I had finished it, I put it back in my stationary
box. I forgot all about it until supper today and when I opened my stationary,
there was your letter! I could’ve kicked myself – I mailed it right away. I
hope there won’t be too much delay in getting it to you in line with the rest
of my mail. You shouldn’t be missing a day of mail call without getting a
letter. You just tell me when you’re not getting my mail. I don’t want you to
feel “low” ever to think I may have forgotten to write. How’s my Darling
feeling? Do things look more encouraging, Sweet? I’m feeling fine.
It’s nice to get a letter more often from you, Sweet, and if
you do write, you know it makes me happy as a bunny. I will keep you in my
thoughts every minute.
Good-night, My Dearest and may
good-luck be with you wherever you go. All My Love and Kisses to you. Your
Baby,
“Kiss”
Emily “Kiss”
MOKOL KITA “Kiss”
