Dear Son,
I thought I
would answer your letter now, which we received yesterday. So you have a sore
throat? What I think you need is some of this nice cool Chicago fresh air to put you in trim again.
Well lets hope that will be pretty soon. Well we are feeling OK and busy right
along. John was here yesterday. He called up around noon and he stopped at
Bertha and from there he was going to see Bob. Andy and Bob went to see the
doctor yesterday so they did not get home until 3:30 O’clock. He is getting
along pretty good but was told to take it easy for a while yet. Your pa came
home around 4 and John wasn’t here so we were wondering what happened to him so
I called up at twenty to 5 and asked if he was coming for supper so they said
he was on his way in a little while. Emily stopped over last night and asked
when your Dad was going to come and talk over about the car so we may go over
this evening. Well I have a surprise for you. Your pa took his first lesson in confirmation.
They have an adult class and they don’t have to memorize anything just so he
knows the apostles creed. He has to go 5 times and then he will be confirmed
Christmas morning. The pastor said that I should come with him when he comes.
How we came to talk about this was last week when we ask the pastor if he would
give us a letter so we can get your release. We are having a building fund that
is for the new church we are going to build so they have shares and they are
$10000 a share so we ask him if we had to pay
that all at one time he said you can pay what ever amount you like so then I
said that your pa isn’t a member and that he isn’t confirmed and he thought he
was a member of St. John Church. I said I feel kind bad now that Della joined
her brother’s church so he asked us to come down on Monday evening for the
class. Was I happy that your pa wanted to start. Now we can all take Communion
together when you are back. Bill, be sure and let us know how long it took to
get there. I am going to take Pinky down and give her a bath when I get through
with this letter. She is driving us nuts the way she is scratching herself. I
am trying to get a lot of writing on this paper that is why I am writing small.
I am all out of this thin paper. I have to get a block of it when I go to the
post office for stamps. I don’t like to use the heavy paper. Well Al
Christensen the barber is being buried this afternoon. He sure suffered long,
was in the hospital twice. You asked about Ed Seve’s
mother. I was suppose to go out and see her but never got so far. Well Bill,
better close this pen don’t want to write anymore I have to go downtown some
day and have it fixed. Hoping you are feeling better when you get this. Best of luck. Love, Mother and Dad XXX
