Dear Ollie:
I received
your very fine letter yesterday. I sure was glad to hear from you. Thanks for
the compliment of telling me I’m faithful in writing. I’m very glad I can say
the same thing for you. I write many friends, and relatives, but you’re the
promptness one to answer my letters. Gee, I guess you are in a tough spot with
60 letters to answer. If you don’t answer me right away, don’t think I’ll feel
angry with you. It surely won’t, no matter what the reason is. But whenever you
write you can always know I’m happy to hear from you. And as for me wanting to
work on your Magazine Staff, please put down yes. I’m only to glad to be of
some service to you. No matter what you want me to do,
I’ll be willing to do anything I can. At Church Meeting, Sunther
Seague, children that have been Confirmed, I was
asked to give a talk about Bible Camp. It was classed as an “A-1” talk by our
Parish Assistant (to be Pastor). He said it was a good “speech.” Boy I’m sure
glad you like it where you are. But I do know, you don’t complain even if you
were in a “tough-spot”. Don’t be worried if they did stop giving Corporal
ratings, now you have got a faster chance of becoming a Sergeant, which you
will be soon, I know. Don’t let the weather man discourage you, why I’ll bet in
3 months you’ll have snow. Everything here is fine “(even the weather)”. My
cousin who is in the Navy gave me a sailor hat. I noticed you typewrite your
letter. This will make it faster and easier to answer those 60 letters, and
don’t think it’s hopeless, it is not. I had a job working for a Jewish tailor.
He wanted me to work all week except Sunday from 10 A.M. – 12 A.M. 12:30-2:
P.M. 4:30 P.M. ½ hr. for supper—9: P.M. for $2.50 a week but I quit after 2
days. I went in today for my pay. Instead of paying me $0.82 for my pay he gave
me some clothes which I had cleaned and pressed (65¢) free, and 35¢ making it 1.00. He told me that I could
name my own price (an hour.) if I would come in for 1
or 2 hours a day. I told him I would ask my parents first. I don’t think I’m
going to go back because a grocery man told me he would pay me $4.00 a week
delivering for him after his delivery boy quit. I think he has quit, so I’m
going over there after while and see. I also had my bike fixed up as I have
told you. So I do quit a bit of riding. It sure goes smooth. I’m also getting a
headlight (generator set), no batteries. You just connect it so it rubs against
the wheel a certain way and the light, lights. Well I guess I’ve written enough
for today, (all the news I know.) Write Soon, and tell me what you would me to
do in your magazine.
