Dear Gram,

I received your letter and package which came very handy. I rolled a can of cookies in my full field pack when I went on the 30 mile hike last Monday. Gee Gram they sure have been walking the day light out of us. Last week we averaged 72 miles and this week they have eased it up to 40 besides walking in and out of the fields where we run our problems. I received two letters from Doug not so very long ago and I wrote him a long letter and sent it air mail. You can’t get very much into those V letters. Did you get my picture? I got a picture from Gustavo yesterday and it’s quite nice. I put it on my shelf and made a frame for it at the machine shop. Tell Arlie that I will try and write sometime this week. One of my buddies that is in the picture I sent you has gone to Fort Ord Calif. his name is John Daley and he was as Irish as they come. Well Gram there isn’t much news for now but next week there probably will. (I hope)
