Dear Dad,
I was very
happy to get your two Vmails and also one from Gram
this morning. I also got a letter from Rita in which she told me that Esther
and Gus had moved to another apt. In your letter you wanted to know what kind
of a wound I had. This is a shrapnel wound received on the border line in Germany.
I have been here in this hospital 114 days now and don’t know just how much
longer I’ll have to stay. I feel the same way you do dad about my wounds. I
would even consider myself lucky if I had of lost my leg just as long as I am
alive is all that matters to me. I don’t know whether or not I will have to go
back or not but I certainly don’t hope to as I have had my fill of it. Give my
love to Gram.
As always much love x,
your son Mike
