Letter # 2

Darling –

Tonight I am very weary – didn’t even want to hear the news at 10. Inez got me up at 6:30 – and asked me to come over in case the baby wakened – she’d just be gone to work ½ hour – The baby waked at 8 – and I spent the A.M washing, feeding and entertaining said baby – for Inez’ ½ hour turned into 4 hours – and home she came around 1100.

The little gal is an awful good baby – even minds beautifully at 14 month! – but I was glad to see Inez, for minding someone else’s child isn’t so interesting – I’d much prefer minding our own.

This afternoon I went to the S.P. office in Glendale and got my R.R. ticket straightened out – I leave Sunday night (7 Oct) at 6:30 from L.A. and I have a roomette – said roomette cost $2938 – which is just a few dollars more than a Pullman berth. So, remember, darling, if you need train space out of L.A – call Tom Keedy – Michigan 6161 – tell him you’re Edith Jones’ relative and he’ll fix you up.

Got back here around 2:30 – to find the baby asleep and Inez practically not breathing – and the rest of the afternoon was spent in bathing the baby and Tres – getting supper, etc. Tonight, we worked some more on the jigsaw puzzle – and as soon as I finish this letter, I’m going to take a nice hot bathe and go quickly asleep to dream of you.

Forgot to tell you – the coasters I got for Bob’s birthday are really nice - $400 for 4 – and the cigarette box was $500. You said to get something nice – and I did – small gifts, but very nice. They’re a little hard to buy for since their house is small and space for new things limited.

It’s been terribly hot here – even since you left – over 100° each day and then terribly cold at night. How’s your weather – not hot yet, I trust – you’re not out for enough.

This letter will be short, for I really didn’t do much to make it interesting and I am kinda’ tired, anyhow.

Tell Dave I said “hello” and “best of lucks” – and that I hope his big ash – tray got emptied out before you sailed. I never did see it clean!

And while you’re at it, Brady, give my love, all of it, to my husband – tell him have much O miss him – and bring him back safely and soon – for good. I do love you, darling – god keep you –

Your
