My Dearest “Judy”,
This
is Saturday evening and as usual there is no place to go so I guess I will
spend the big night aboard ship and going to the show, the picture tonight is “Christmas
In Connecticut” did you ever see it?
Today
being Saturday we didn’t do very much work because it was raining too. I got up
this morning about seven o’clock, ate breakfast at seven-thirty and then at
eight I worked until ten getting ready for captain’s inspection. After
inspection at 10:15 I took a cold shower and went to bed and slept until 4:30
tonight when it was time for supper, tough life isn’t it??? Saturday and Sunday
are the only good days in the week regardless if you are a civilian or in the
service, don’t you agree honey?
I
have the whole night off for a change but I have a watch in the morning from 4
to 8 but I think I will be well rested by four in the morning!!!
Most
of the fellows are on liberty today so that leaves the ship pretty quiet. About
seven of the fellows started out early this morning on a hike up on of the big
mountains so
I guess they will be back tomorrow sometime.
So
you see honey that there isn’t too much to do out here and every time you want
some excitement you must go find it yourself. Of course a good time costs money
out here and a lot more than back in the states. Last Saturday when we were in
Manila we got paid and I drew $33 which isn’t much but I spent that plus $25
which a fellow owed me and #20 more of my own. I know that anybody can have the
time of his life for a week on $48 but I had to have mine all in one night, who
ever said “you can’t spend Monday oversees”?? So now that I am broke I will
stay in for a while because I don’t want to borrow any money.
I
wonder what you could be doing tonight hon? Do you
care if I ask you for a date tonight? You don’t swell, I’ll be over about seven
thirty, o.k.? Please excuse me hon because I am only dreaming
again which isn’t unusual.
Well
darling I guess I better bring this letter to a close because it is almost time
for the show to start and they are giving out the beer so I better fall in line
for mine. So goodnight baby, be good and sweet dreams. I’ll write again in the
morning when I am on watch, bye now.
Loving
You Always,
“Genie”
