Dear
Mom,
Today is the second day since the
Japs accepted our peace terms.
You know, I don’t like the way the
Japs are still attacking our fleet off Japan nor do I like the way the Japs are
broadcasting news reports and stuff to their own people. From the way they tell it, they had to give in,
but next time – you know the old story.
General MacArthur has been put in charge of the Japs so I hope he
straightens them out in a hurry. We don’t
want another war in 25 years. The next
war may find the atomic bomb against us.
Tomorrow, envoys from Japan are
supposed to arrive in Manila for a start of the peace settlements. I hope ‘Mac’ uses a firm hand. Since Pearl Harbor I wouldn’t trust a Jap for
anything!!
Today things are pretty much back to
normal. There was a lot of celebrating
last night but morning brings the realization that it’s still a long road home.
The army has some good plans for
releasing men. They expect to release
over a ½ million men a month. It will
take about two months for things to start rolling. They expect to follow the point system.
That job came thru. I’m w working with Lt. Tousley again. We are installing some more radio equipment,
as another station is going to be put up.
I like this type of work, so can’t ask for more! This new equipment will handle all the
administrative traffic to advance bases.
In the very near future, censorship
of mail will stop. It will mean my
letters will be able to reach you just that much sooner.
All day today the fellows, myself,
and Lt. Tousley spent our time moving in the heavy equipment for the
station. Most of the work was in the sun
and I picked up quite a burn. I don’t
have any problem with suntan. It just
turns brown right away.
No letters from the family
today. I did receive a very lovely
letter from Miss Schwangbach. This is
the 2nd letter that I’ve received from her while I was at the same
address. Usually when I received a letter
from her I had moved to another company.
Well, mom, I’ll say night for
now. Lots of love and an ocean full of
those BBX’s to a very super mom.
Your
loving son,
David
