My darling Jannette,

Another week has gone by.  Sometimes they seem to go so fast and again it seems very slow.  But, as you know, each one gone is one less until the time we shall be together once more.  Friday night I received another letter from you dear, #7, June 11th.  Glad everyone is so pleased over my promotions, needless to say, so am I.

This morning I went to lunch as usual at 8:30.  Then this afternoon I took off and slept most of the afternoon.  I was a little tired because last night I went to a party and dance held by the Battalion Hg. that has large of my companies running my depots.  Another Lt. Col. and I were invited out and we did not go back until after 1 AM.  There were about 15 officers there and 15 army nurses from an American Hospital.  We had an enjoyable time- danced and had refreshments-wine, candies, French pastries and later Vienna sausages, rolls, mustard pickles and coffee.  The lady who owns the large house where the Bw. Hg. is quartered made the candies and pastries.  She is French, of course.  Her fiancé and brother are both and the army and away.  Now I will answer a letter or two.  Your June 1st # 1, reads June 17th.  You said you had a feeling that something was wrong with me when I had the gripple.  Perhaps it is three o’clock each day, when our thoughts are with each other, dear.  Did I ever tell you the second passage with all the things arrived safely?  If not, I am sorry, I forgot.  It arrived a week or two ago.  Your June 3rd #2.  Yes, I’ll use V-mail as it does seem faster on the whole.  I will write you a short regular letter tomorrow to enclose the promotion allotment exc. Had a good time tonight- roast beef sandwich with gravy, peas creamed, baked stuffed tomato (bread stuffing and very good) and chocolate ice cream.  We must lose now.  All my love to you, my darling wife.

Your devoted husband,

Carlton
