Letter# 4
My Darling Jeannette,
Monday night and another week under way. I wonder how many more weeks and months it will be before I shall see you again. How I long for that time to come and thankful I shall be when this war is over. But then we should not complain, who are relatively safe and sound while many of my own men are fighting and dieing for their country. It is little enough for us to give our own time away from home and our loved ones while they give their lives for their home and country.
Since last writing (regular air on 10 July), I have received one more welcome letter from you, darling- # 15, June 29th. I’m glad the m.o. arrived safely and hope by now you have received my missing # 7 & 10 for May. I’ll only send regular mail from now on when I have something to enclose. And that reminds me in my last letter I enclosed 2 money orders for $100 each for you to put on the house. I hope they arrive safely.
Now to answer a letter or two. Yours of June 11th #7 , read June 25th. Haven’t read the LT. col’s leaves yet nor the p’k’g. you sent the first of June. I sent you in my June 29th letter my estimated income for the year and all as you asked. My base pay with fogies and foreign duty is $4068.54 for the year, all of which is taxable. That does not include rental or ration allowances. Yes I would like you to start a savings account when the house is paid for. Yours of June 15th, #9, read july 4th. Send more of your letters V mail now as the regular air have been very slow in coming this way, lately. Glad you had a chance to get out to the Commandry doings. Was to dinner at Brunet’s Sunday night and enjoyed it. They are very nice people. Must say good night now, sweetheart. All my love and kisses for you, darling
