Monday Night

My
darling;
Do
you know that I almost forgot to tell you about yesterday at Margaret’s? Well,
it’s quite an exciting story! We had a wonderful dinner—baked ham, mashed
potatoes, pineapple, fresh peas, rolls and graham cracker pie with coffee. When
I started to eat, I noticed a piece of white paper sticking out underneath my
plate and of course, curious-like, I gingerly pulled it out and it was a white
envelope containing a $25 war bond! Well, after dinner I was handed a box that
rattled and upon opening it, found a box of chocolates. Then in the evening,
when I started for home, Margaret gave me a big sack containing about three
pounds of ham, a can of salmon, and a can of pineapple, which is costly in
points.
So
you can see that I’m being very well treated by friends and neighbors. I told
you that Mildred offered to let me use the front room and her studio couch when
Mother and Dad come out. Think of what that will save me?
I love you an awfully lot,
Berna
