Monday Afternoon (late)

Dear Ken;

            Today was my first day commuting and my first day of field work and it’s been a long time since I’ve been this thrilled over anything like this! It’s really going to be fun. This afternoon the three of us (only three taking this course) were turned loose - - to find ten different places over the city which our supervisor had plotted for us. The main office of the San Francisco Health Department is located in Civic Center and from here we go to our special assignments over our district. I am fortunate in being stationed in Civic Center District. One girl is in the Mission District, another is Chinatown. Wednesday we are all going to visit a well-baby clinic. Such is like in the big city.

            Yesterday I forgot to give you Dave’s address; if you can possibly find time, will you write to him? It’s his first time away from home and he’s terribly lonesome and bewildered, and perhaps you can give him some brotherly advice?

If you must skip a letter to me, I won’t complain at all if you’ll only write to my little brother! I’m really not in the mood to say much more about him right now, but I shall explain later.

Love,

Berna Lou
