Sat morning

Sept. 15th

Dear Fran: -

How’s my honey, I hope she’s well and happy. The more I write you the more I wish you were here with me but its rather expensive to come down just for a short time when we don’t know just how long I’m going to be here. Yesterday was an easy day for me as I was guarding a prisoner all day. I don’t mean a prisoner of war but one of our own boys that went A.W.O.L. and he’s serving 6 months in the stockade but he must still continue his training every day the same as us fellows. He walks around all day with a guard behind him with a loaded carbine. They instruct us to use the gun if he doesn’t do as we tell him. Here I am finishing our 6th week, the time certainly is flying but not fast enough to suit me. I’m anxious to get home with my honey and I know you’re just as anxious. Today we have two hours of bayonet drill, one hour of orientation. This afternoon before we got off I guess will have to G.I. the barracks and have rifle inspection, incidentally the rifle better be clean or else. Yesterday coming back from the rifle range it started to rain and I mean rain, boy you should have seen us when we got back. We were drenched through and through and we slogged along in mud up to our ankles. Well honey I hope things straighten themselves out at my house. That was nice of you to send Verna flowers she should have appreciated them.

I have a lot of letters to answer but haven’t had the time yet and I must write my honey I guess I haven’t been doing to good about writing have I. Honey as soon as I get your package with the film in it Bob and I will take some pictures and I’ll send a set to you and a set up to my mother and dad. I guess Bob, Joe D. and myself will go into Macon tonight and take in a show and a few beers but no need to worry your little head because I’m still being a good boy and intend to stay that way. Remember honey I love you so be good and don’t get impatient I’ll be home soon. Tell your folks I said hello also Janie and my other friends.

With all my love,

Your honey.
