Monday night
Sept. 17th
My dear Fran:-
Well honey
another day finished so I must take time out to write my loved one. Spent the
whole morning on the operation of the automatic rifle. This afternoon went to
Lee Range to fire the rifle grenade and the anti tank grenade launcher boy
those babies really have a kick, most have fellows have black and blue
arms but I guess I fired it correctly because my arm didn’t get sore. Tonight
we were restricted to the barracks so we had a G.I. party, thats what we just
finished so I’ll write before they turn the lights out. After lights out I’ll
take my shower and shave. It certainly is getting cool down here mornings. I
received your letter today but it didn’t have much news in it but nevertheless
I was glad to hear from my honey so if you don’t do any more than write and
tell me you love me don’t stop writing. I’m still waiting for the package you
said was coming. By the way when are you sending yourself, just kidding, as
much as I’d love to have you I know you can’t come so don’t take me too
seriously. Haven’t heard any recent rumors but some officers seem to think we
will put in our 17 weeks and others say it will be cut probably to 12 or 13
weeks but I know the shorter they make it the better satisfied I will be and you
too I guess. Well honey I think this letter will be rather short but you at
least know I haven’t forgotten you and I still love you. I think I’ll answer
Verna’s letter. Honey don’t stop loving me and be good and I’ll do the same for
you. Tell your folks I said hello and any of my friends you might run into.
With all my love,
Your honey.
