My darling wife: -
Just finished taking my bath so outside of being lonely for my darling
I feel pretty good. I‘ve done a little more today than
I have the last couple of days. Jim and myself
went down the line to visit the British. We went there to make a security check
but didn’t make much headway. This morning I visited the prison, was looking
for a man, what a crummy place. Last night after chow all of us went out to M.
G. to see a movie, “The Sailor Takes a Wife.” It was good. While we were there
we saw the new home so as to get some idea what ours would be like and it’s
very nice. Ours is coming along fine, they have it all staked off. It will be
complete and ready to move in the first day of June. That certainly will be a
relief, it will be much more like home when we can sleep in beds and eat from a
table. I bought myself a new watch today. Jim, the Lt., needed some money and
he had three watches so I bought one for 450 yen that’s equal to $30. - Its a
brand new watch that he bought aboard the boat on the way over. Its stainless
steel, waterproof, shockproof, and is Swiss made. I still have the one you sent
me but it isn’t keeping good time. I’m anxious to find out if you’ve received
all the money I sent home because the one check for $60 was signed and anyone
could have cashed it. The one for $14 - of course had to be counter-signed by
you. From now on any money I send home I’ll send by registered letter then I’ll
be sure it reaches home. I was sitting in the office yesterday figuring how
much my honey & I should have saved until I get home and if I figure
correctly it should be around $2000. This figure includes the $50 you get every
month, my check I send every month, the $150. I leave
With
all my love,
Your honey.
