Wed. Morning
Aug. 29th
Dear Fran:
I doubt if I’ll get this finished this morning, but I’ll at least have it started. I received your letter yesterday, also one from my mother. It doesn’t sound like you’re getting along again. I’m sure I can’t do much about it, you’ll have to straighten it out yourself. It’s now Thursday morning and I’m just getting back to your letter so you can see this week is a busy one. We get up at 4:30 or 5 o’clock; get back in off the range at 6:30, then rush to chow, then back at cleaning our rifles for inspection. When the day is over we’re damn tired and ready for bed. I finished firing yesterday for this week, so for the balance of the week I must work on the range doing various jobs while the balance of the company fires. I qualified with 155 out of a possible 210. Those fellows that didn’t qualify must keep firing until they do, they need 140 to qualify. I finally received my money from the Steel Co., so I’m sending you the check stub. I’m sorry to hear about your differences at my house, so when I write home I’ll try and get it straightened out but don’t let it worry you. I love you and you love me so that’s about all that matters. Still haven’t received my shoes. It’s like I said before, after wearing those heavy shoes all day a pair of civilian shoes will feel good. As a matter of fact, a whole civilian outfit would suit me fine. We are still waiting for the President to declare V - J Day, so we get a day off and do a little celebrating. Well honey, I have to cut this letter short because they’re starting to holler already, so if I can find a little time I’ll write again tonight. Remember your honey still loves you and always will so be good and I’ll be home as quick as I can get there. Tell your folks and all I sent my regards.
With all my love,
Your honey!
