My dear Rev. Turner,
I
have found that everything comes at once in the Navy—Christmas packages
included, if you just wait long enough. Uncle Sam does a beautiful job on mail,
but we move around so much that it is difficult for him to have the packages
arrive close to Christmas. However—when they do come—we have Christmas.
The gift was excellent,
timely, and arrived in perfect condition. A real surprise too, because after I
had just received Mother’s and Sally’s gifts, I did not expect anything else.
Believe me when I say this—After
your Mother and Wife remembers, then the Church, what more can a man ask for in
times like these.
To the Church—I want to
express my sincere thanks and appreciation for their gift and thoughtfulness. I
pray that that day is not far distant when we can all return home—God’s
willing.
At any rate—Keep the home
fires burning and may this letter find you, your
family, and Church in the best of health during this Easter season.
Sincerely—
Alden
