History Lecture

Dear John Milton,

Excuse the high price stationary please. The professor is now lecturing on part of the text, and I haven’t read it. Therefore, I cannot take intelligent notes, so I’ll endeavor to write you some of the news from W.V.U’s campus

This past weekend I went to Bridgeport, W.Va for a 2 day’s vacation. I was the guest of a girlfriend. I had a lot of fun, but had no business going. While I was away, the boy I’ve been dating had a terrible catastrophe happen in his family. His mother died, and I didn’t know of it until 7:30 last evening. I had a date, and was unable to call him. I do feel quite sorry for him, and he was his mother’s boy instead of a father’s boy. I hope you get what I mean.

I’ll tell you now I’m not married, definitely not. I’ve practically quit dating the boy I was going with. He just got his paternity pin, and he wanted me to accept. He’s been after me to take it for a long time. The way I feel now, I never want a pin. I like to date more than one boy at a time too much. You know how I like to tear around and have fun with everyone.

Since my last letter, nothing of any importance has happened. The dress affair has died down, and I now live in peace again. For awhile all the students kidded me quite a bit, but as I say, this is about all over. I’ve gotten an invitation for a formal dance in April. It is the Delta Tau Delta fraternity spring formal. This is an early bid, but one must put his bid in early around here to get anyplace. I imagine I’ll go. As far as I know now, I will. That’s about all I have to say about the dances, except that they’re holding University dances now expensively.

Studies are as hard, and classes are progressing fine. We have been having regular classes now for about 3 weeks. First thing I know mid-semester tests will be here. For the past several days, we have been having spring weather. All of us seem to have a slight touch of spring fever. The professor has asked several students questions, and if he happens to call upon me, I’m sunk. I don’t know a thing.

It is now 11:40, and class isn’t over until 12. I’m so tired of sitting I could die. I’ve been in classes since 8 am. I won’t finish until 3 this afternoon. This is the fullest day I have. At this point, I’m also about starved. I’ll eat lunch at 12:20, and I have a class at 1. I’ll have to eat and run.

John Milton, I’ll quit now, and I’ll be looking for a letter real, real soon. Study hard and take care of yourself.

                                                                                    So long,

                                                                                    With love,

                                                                                                Ruth
