Saturday

Hello my Sonny:

I went down town a little awhile ago to take some song books to the Salvation Army U.S.O. rooms. They asked thru the papers for such books for the boys, so I bought four of different kinds such as Bing Crosby’s, Lanny Ross and two of the older variety of songs.

Then on my way back I ran into a parade celebrating another group of young men going into the service. I didn’t stand to watch it as I was then on my way to Bud’s office, so I kept on going there. He asked after you and I didn’t have much to tell him. By the way, we kinda looked for a call last evening (Friday) thinking perhaps you might know something after that meeting with the Board. Let us know when you hear any thing. The wait may not be as long as you might think.

It is very fine that the men you work with have proven to be a nice sort, and I surely hope if such a thing is possible that you by some “hook or crook” get something out of them that might help you. No, we have heard nothing. We rather believe when any thing is to be given out, it will be from your end.

The high water here didn’t do any un-usual harm except for the usual rise in the streets that you already know of. It did tie up several troop trains in the yards here and from what Ben observed, they didn’t have any thing by way of entertainment except to be taken out in the wet fields and drill.

To go back to my being in Bud’s office, When I came out of his operating room, who should be sitting there but Miss Fitchett’s sister Dorothy all dressed up in a uniform with braids and “medals” whistle and straps and what not and the little cap these officer women wear, and when Bud saw her he said,”Good morning captain”, What do you know about this, and isn’t it just those kind that get the positions? I’ll say it is.

I hope you got this Monday when letters are given out, and good luck and keep your fingers crossed.

Love from us,

                As always,

                Mother-

                                Me too
