9 Sept 1943
My darling,
Another
letter from you this morning dated September first in which you say that you
have still had no word from me. I am indeed worried that you have not as I have
written frequently. I suspicion that mail from here to
I wrote you yesterday on my return from a trip and there should be some letters awaiting you in SA which you probably did not have forwarded. Your trip sounds as if you have had a wonderful time and plenty of sight seeing. To be able to live with a real Spanish family like that makes it sound so much more interesting. I know that you are bursting with Castilian phrases and much good Spanish. I suppose that your return in the September heat is none to welcome but it will not be long before the summer is really over. There is a possibility that Guatemala may open up in a few months and if it does my little bug must be right on the ball and ready for a trip there for your big pop will be right on hand to greet you with more than open arms. Lordy, lordy, what a thrill that would be for me. Don’t take that too literally about GMC but it is a deduction that I have made from some information that I have heard. Nothing direct but having to do with the general situation. If I get anything on it you can rest assured that I will let you know immediately. Since I have to go there officially it would be perfect. Eh what???
Honey do you need a serviceable watch. I can get some of the best makes here for about a third less, say thirty to fifty dollars. I have been thinking of something for your birthday but I see you wear a watch so seldom that I hesitated on that. No fancy jewelry kind but ladies size standard good makes are available. Gruen etc.
News is so
scarce here my dear that it is hard to tell you much. I have made so much love
to you, sweet, lately in my letters and some of which you will probably not
get, that I feel sort of foolish to continue saying the same things, though god
only knows I mean them with all my heart. More than ever
before in my life. And that wonderful letter from you
that night in
We are getting nowhere in getting our bare and barren house established with a little furniture for sitting purposes. Everyone here wants to realize a 200% profit on anything they own as stuff is getting scarce and hard to get in this part of the world.
If you get a chance honeybunch I sure would like some more of those Fancey Tale cigars. Out of the last bunch I have only ONE away and saved the rest for my after dinner smoke that I use to take on the veranda at RF. Out of hay fever shot. I have gained about seven pound and just before being on one of those things again. Guess that you are glad not to have to put up with me during that time. I have to be a slim general you know. (How about my picture?). Keep your eyes on the paper for you will probably hear before I do when the list comes out. Loads of love sweet girl.
