Dearest Mary,
I guess old
lady luck must be with me today. Five letters
and all of them are recent ones too: March-1, 2, 5, 5, and 6th. I know I don’t have to tell you that they
were all wonderful and the little letters were best of all cause I know you were
pretty tired when you wrote them and did so so I wouldn’t have to go without a
letter. You know how I’d like to thank
you for being so considerate, don’t you Mish.
I meant to
tell you last evening that I met a fellow whom used to be with Lou, Bullock,
Dick, and me at Crowder. He and another
fellow were drinking wine in one of the side walk cafés along the Chamjo
Elysie. He had just been telling the
other fellow that Paris
was a beautiful place, but one could sit there a lifetime and never meet an acquaintance. I proved the saying- If you wait in one of
the side walk cafés long enough, you’re bounded to meet someone from home. There wasn’t much time to talk, as some of the
fellows were waiting for me a few blocks down the avenue. I’ll see him again though and as Lou is one
here now, I’ll have a chance to see him again too. The fellows name is Shechter; I think I
mentioned him in some of my letters. The
cafés are open, but food is still quite scarce- so one must be satisfied with
wine, etc. A small amount of wine,
whiskey, beer, etc, etc. will last me a long, long time so I haven’t tried them
out yet. Someday I’ll stop by and have a
picture snapped because a visit to Paris
wouldn’t be complete without such a picture.
By the way, when I met Sheck, I was on the way to see a “Three
Dimensional Picture,” at one of the studios where they are made. I might have mine taken that way - They are
quite nice, really life like. They look
the same as a flat picture would through a stereoscope. I guess the effect of a third dimension is
obtained by superimposing one picture on another. They are quite expensive, more than twenty
dollars, so I’ll have to think about it a long time. It seems to be something new, so I just went
up to take a “look-see.”
I want to
get something for the kids, maybe a small bracelet, handkerchief, etc. I know they’ll get a pick from them. I’ve seen some nice kerchiefs, for a nice
bum, who likes them, so they will be the next thing to expect. I’ll send the “Blouse Book” too, “Spunky,” as
soon as I can get a large envelope for it.
That seems to be about all the news for today Sweetheart, take care of
yourself for me always-‘Night for now- all our love always.
Yours,
F.D.
