Dearest Mary
I hardly
know what to write about tonight, there has been so little that has happened between
last night and tonight. The big news of course is that another package arrived
today. It was the one you marked March 3rd. Contents – two jars of
jam- blackberry, peach and a jar of peanut butter- a box of saltines, and two
boxes of graham crackers- they’re tops. Again I received congratulations on
having such an expert cook for my wife along with being tops as a Tuinner Gunner (?)- Sherholz said
he owes you a good many dinners. I assured him that when we get back we’ll take
him up on his offers. Any time you want to send a package the jam will be
received with as much enthusiasm as anything I can think of- so you see it
really is very good- By the way- all the packages arrive in very good order-
and that gives me a lot of hope for the perfume- which I hope has reached you
by this time. I’m sure it has been well over a month since I sent the first
package.
I’ve been
waiting anxiously to hear what you say about the packing. Guess that will help
you to know whether your husband has changed within the last year. It was just
a year ago yesterday that I had to report to Reynolds. Hope everyday Bum that
by this time next year, I’ll be home to stay. From all the good reports, it
might be possible. There are a million and one things to do, so I suppose even
after “VE Day” it will be many months before we can even think about going
home- but at the last moment anything can happen to speed it along so all in
all it might not take as long as we think- Pollyanna or what have you.
I have a
three day pass starting tomorrow- we aren’t allowed to travel very far from
F.D.
The pictures are for Mrs. Contlon- if you wish to give them
to her
