Dear
Nick,
Received your letter today and right
now Dan and I are sitting in the Lobby of “Husband Hunters Paradise” (Girl’s
Dormitory). We haven’t much to do so we’ve
decided to answer your letter. What do you mean by saying that we’ve never
written to you, you ought to know better than that. There could have been some delay, maybe it’s
because you’re a “yard bird.” I guess I
don’t have to tell you that Rosie is fine, she’s written to you nearly every
day and told you that herself. Johnny’s
working from midnight to 8 A.M. shift this week. He’s a Fireman in one of the boiler rooms, in
the hospital area near the Service Club (I guess you don’t know where that’s
at.)
Last Saturday Dan and I went to the
PX dance, held at the American Legion Hall, Edgewood. Tiny was Chairman. I also met the fellow that took your place at
Branch Fire. Captain Tunnell and Mrs.
Tunnell were also at the dance (Dan says Captain T. had his full dress suit on
also had a neat 2 and 1 shine on his bald bean, also Mrs. T came in a sacky
evening gown.) We danced and had a nice
time. Lester Mangold and Grizzly had a
half glass of beer a piece and were both plastered.
Don’t be surprised if you see Daniel
one of these days among the rest of you “yard birds,” but I swear Nick, he’ll
look worse than you do in the army hat.
Dan says he wants to be the chief cook so he can have a big stomach and
three more chins on top of the three he’s got.
Lorrelli’s brother is down at that
Air Field that the Japs bombed. Dan says
that Captain Watts expects to be a major very soon as he already got his paper
this week. Johnny doesn’t call for me,
but I do see him once in a while. I
guess he can’t very well make it, we will put it down to that. I guess that’s all the dirt I can dig up for
now, but we’ll try and write more the next time. Take good care of yourself, as I always said
you’re my best brother.
Dan sends his kindest regards and I
send my love.
As
always,
Sis
and Danny.
P.S.
Johnny sends his regards. Jeanette said,
“Hello.” Write soon.
