My dearest Nick,
I didn’t work today, dear, for Esta
and I went to Baltimore and we had a nice time shopping, honey. I bought a
dress, a suit, and luggage. I bought three pieces, dear, and they have my
initials. Soon, my darling, I will be going home for a visit with Esta, honey. I won’t go if you get your furlough for
Easter. I’ll stay, dear, and wait for you – for you I long and want to be with.
My dear, I received two letters today and I’ve read them
over and over. I love you, my dear, I love you and your letters bring me
happiness. That is all I can think of, too, is your furlough. Yes, dear, we
will be together soon. We can say that the Army can’t prevent us from seeing
each other at least every other [?]. We will write and write, my dearest Nick,
and then it will happen. I love you, too, my dear, and want you to hold me
close, close dear, to your heart and tell me you love me. My thoughts drift
back to Richmond and June 5th and how we loved. Our love is true and
oh, so heavenly and full of ecstasy. How I wish you could be here.
Honey, it’s early for bed, Esta
went out, and I’m sitting on my bed writing to you. Later on, I’m going to take
a bath and read for a while in bed and let my mind drift to Georgia.
It will be lovely to retire together, honey, and I’m sure
we’d love and love each other. That’s how we want it… for we love each other so
sweetly. That is how I want it to be, dear, my life to be with you. Honey, when
you get your furlough, I’ll take off and we’ll spend the days and evenings
together. Just us two, honey, with a quiet corner kissing each other and
loving. [edited for content]
Honey, I wouldn’t know what I’d do if you stopped writing
to me. You’re everything to me, I love you dear, with
all my heart. Each day, my darling, I made a letter to you telling you that I
love you and I want you. I wouldn’t hurt you for the world, dear, never. My
love will last forever and ever.
I’m having a date with you tonight. How are you, dear?
What did you do today? Honey, I’d like to see you around four tomorrow? Do you
think that you can make it?
Honey, remember the night I wouldn’t stay in the car, for
you didn’t wrap your arms around me, why? And there you called up and you come
down to the Rest. How I watched for you, dear, and when you came, we left for a
walk. We kissed, darling, on there on the street. Coming back you teased me
about a mustache. No matter, dear, I’d still love and love you with all my
heart. We belong together, I can say that. We haven’t had any difficulties yet
and I pray we never will. The thing to do, honey, is
to confide in each other. I know I will, and you will too. We can do that,
dear, after dinner, you are reading the paper and I’m sewing. I know that we
will be happy, and I’m sure that you feel the same way. It is heavenly to be in
love, dear, and be held so close to you. I forget all things but you and I held
[cut off]. It’s heavenly, dear, the way we feel.
Honey, I’m going to say goodnight and may God Bless you. Sending all my love and kisses, dear, to you and only you.
Someday, my darling, our kisses and loving will be real and not feverish. Genuine, dear, real ones. Take good care of yourself dear,
Goodnight honey,
Lovingly Yours,
Rose
P.S. Soon I’ll take a
bath, and read. Pretend that you and I are in the story. Be good, dear, oh, how
I wish you were here, dear, here with me. On Saturdays we would take our time
about coming in. We hardly ever came in beyond three. Those days are gone,
dear, but there are better days to come. Believe, dear, it’s you and only you
that I love and want.
Yours with all my love,
Rose
Honey, I tore my paper.
Honey, I mailed your
letter to you in Baltimore today. It will get there soon.
Sunday
Afternoon: 4:00 P.M
We have a date, dear, today at four oclock.
Do you remember,
I’ve washed and ironed today, honey. I have my brown
pleated skirt to do. Then I am going to town to eat.
Honey, I had a grand time today. Esta,
Jenna, Motley and I went riding and what lovely countryside around here. Riding
around, dear, reminded me of us the Saturday that I took off. Remember the
pears, honey? We ate and ate and how deliciously happy we were.
Honey, I love you.
Rose
