Dear Nick,
I
don’t know which one of us forgot to write, well, I figured I wrote last but I
lost tab and I waited awhile. I was on the S.S.
New York, a training ship for a month here in
Staten Island, but I am back on Hoffman Island. I will have my course completed
about the 4th of July, then I will be home
on a leave before I ship out. We are having a week of gunnery here and then we
take boat drills and lifeboat tests for a ticket and other exams. For the rest
of the time we are here. I heard from Pee Wee and home and everybody is fine.
We may get a 2 or 3 week leave but I don’t know as yet as for the number of
days we will get. I saw a good part of New York while I was here. I was at
Coney Island a while back and also in Chinatown, boy that is sure some place. I
never heard from Anna or Dan since I saw them in Aberdeen. If you have Dan’s
address send it to me because I like to drop him a line. We get paid this
weekend I don’t know where I’ll go. Did you land any rating yet? We come back
to the island this passed Tuesday. Pee Wee’s leave
was canceled and he [doesn’t] know when he will be home. I have had a pretty
nice time since I came to this place, so I think I’ll stick to this kind of
work for a while yet, I still can quit but I’ll stick around and may see
something, I took a few pictures at Coney Island, they aren’t any good, like
the Carnival pictures but I’ll send you one to see what I look like. Does Squary ever write to you? Well I can’t think of anything
just now, answer soon. Send best regards & good luck,
