August 3 1943
Dear Nick,
I received your letter, and was glad
to hear from you. Thanks for the money alas. I had five letters today. They
were from your, Pee Wee, Popovick’s, Ape, and Roy Custer. I had a letter from
home the other day and one from John Kanwick, and Alex. I get quite a bit of
mail now.
We are going out in the field again
tomorrow. I think we will be out for two days. I like it here pretty good. We
sure get good eats here. I think I’ll gain some weight if the eats are as good
all the time. This outfit is about a year old. All the fellows were in here a
long time. There sure is a nice bunch of fellows in here.
The weather is nice here. It isn’t
as hot as it was in Texas. I’m on a 155 M M. I don’t do much when we go out in
the field. I help to dig a couple of fox holes and some other things around the
gun. I’m new on this gun yet. We had an inspection of all our clothing today.
We alas had to take off our insignia. It was the Mid Western insignia. I think
we will get the big two now, or the dice with the eleven on.
There were about twelve guys that
went home on furlough today. I don’t know when I’ll get one.
I didn’t sign the payroll yet. I’ll
get it all next month. I guess this will be all for this time, but will write
soon again.
Sending the best of luck,Answer soon,
Your
Bro.
Frank
