Camp Hood, Texas

May 30th, 1944

Dear Nick,

I received your letter today, and was glad to hear from you. All is going fair with me as yet. How is everything going with you?

I had a card from George the other day, and his address is N.Y. in care of Postmaster. And I guess he is about ready to go across.  [I] also had a letter from Kariaks, and they were down to see Mom and Pop [for} a couple weeks. Alex is in England now.

I didn’t have my furlough. [I] was supposed to get it the day I came down here. I don’t know when I will get it now. We are moving out on Wednesday, I think. I suppose we will go to La. We were to be at this place [in] eight weeks. That is the two gun sections that are here. We got word from our outfit back at Sill that they were moving out, and we are supposed to meet them at the new camp, but if it is in La., I don’t know as yet. I may get my furlough from the next camp.

We are going out in the field this afternoon. [I] won’t know if we will do any firing.  We did a lot of firing over the infantry.

One of the boys just came in, and said we don’t leave here till the 4th of June. So now I don’t know when we will move out.

You asked what happened to the corporals rating. Well another fellow got it. He was in the outfit larger than I was, and was older. Now they don’t have any openings, so I’m out. A fellow can’t get anything in this Battery. Our captain is a young fellow, and he doesn’t know very much. The other Batteries have old captains, and they know what they are doing. I’ll make Private First Class in a couple of months I suppose.

I haven’t much more to write just now so [I] will close for now, so write soon.

Sending you the best wishes and regards

Your Brother,

Frank
