Sat – 11 AM

Dear Mother and others,

Well, the sun is still shining very brightly and regularly and it has really been hot the last 2 or 3 days. Tho’ we’ve suffered no bad effects yet, it seems almost unbearable. A rain and cool shell out here would be just like heaven!!

I’ve been to see 2 USO picture shows since being here. I’d seen one and last night they showed one of actual combat on the African deserts, but it wasn’t very enjoyable silent and not to plain, tho’ it did give us a pretty good conception of what desert warfare is, or was. Hope all this desert fighting is over, as we believe it is. They “tell” us that there will be no more desert maneuvers after age 15, but we are still scheduled to do it anyway. I hope we do get out of it someway, for it will really be a tough one on us.

A letter from Raul yesterday said that it was just about as got Thurs. as yet. His camp sight looked very much like ours – sandy and burl.

We played a practice B. Ball game last night just before dark and lost it in the last inning after holding them to 0 – we changed the line- up that inning and then blew up completely!! We have a league here in the Reg. and well play nearly every night from now on.

We begin shooting next wk. and well shoot from 7 AM to 11 AM. Don’t know what we’ll do in P.M.’s. The range is about 5 miles out and guess we’ll have to hike out and back every day. That will be hard in this sand and heat. Also it will be pretty hot and dirty lying on the ground to shoot. Glad you got a shower and hope it’s rained there since I’m sure the corn would be much better with a little more moisture as well as the cotton. Seems that it’s dry nearly everywhere. Maybe it will rain and the pasture will come out some.

Haven’t done anything today and will also have tomorrow off. 3day pass begin next Tues. – 35 of us go at a time – one load a time until we get more trucks.

                                                Love to all – Rus.
