My dear Bobs:
Your nice
letter written Wednesday and Thursday just received. I am sure happy that you had such a fine time
last week. Glad you have ticket to Oklahoma,
and know you will greatly enjoy Jenette McDonald.
Glad you got to take in Opera last week. I can imagine you get a wallop out of
having officers take their orders from you when on duty. I trust this work
detail won’t throw you too much out of schedule on lab work. Yes, I’ll bet that
was a thrill of a sight from top of Board of Trade at night. I suppose next
letter will tell us all about the party Saturday night. Mother and I were
thinking about you at that time, and wondering if everything was checking out
as expected. Well, tomorrow is Election Day. I sure hope it goes Republican.
Mother is sure jittery. We will go to Republican Club for supper and take
Blanche with us. As Mother says she knows she will want company tomorrow
night. If the election goes to suit her,
she wants to be with fellow Republicans, if it don’t she says she don’t want to
be alone in her disgust. We will go to the Denham after dinner, as returns will
be coming in all evening. Billy Radcliffe is here on furlough. We didn’t see
him at church, but Blanche did and she says he “is a mess.” Don’t see how he
would ever pass inspection. He weighs over 200 lbs, fat and sloppy as the
dickens. Has rating of Aviation Mechanics Mate 2nd Class, which I
understand is equivalent to Petty Officer 2nd Class. His job is
ground crew on navy aviation set-up. Rex Hield is
here on furlough, and I expect he will go to sea pronto now. Stan Salyards expects sea duty right away and will be on board
sub-chaser. I went to the cabin Saturday afternoon. I made good headway on
Tam-O-Shanter. It’s cloudy today, and snow is predicted. Hope it don’t amount
to much. I am installing signal from Projection Room to Living Room, a push-button
downstairs and hope to get hold of two-tone chime to put in living room. Have
returned Caldbad Film to AT&SF, as say they want
to show it around New Mexico
for awhile. Baur’s and Kuner
Empson have new sound color films I understand.
Mother and I went to Phipps Auditorium Saturday night and saw Burton Holmes’s “Colorado” film. Say Mr.
Bailey Jones was in Denver
a week ago Sunday for visit. Is located at Kansas City,
Mo., or maybe Independence, I guess. Eddie Jones is singing
on Station KLDS I understand. Ellsworth has been sick for over a week. Chronic
tonsillitis, and this morning had fever of over 100. Devitt’s
have torn up stepping stones around south side of their house, and have had
cement walk put in. Dr. Devitt said water was coming
through into his front room in basement. The walk is 3 ft wide and he thinks
that will keep water away from house and will eliminate the trouble.
Well, can’t
think of anything more to tell you so will get this off pronto.
Adios,
palsie, my boy,
Dad
