Hi
darlin’,
Please excuse the writing tonight as I’ve had a couple shots of American
whiskey and some beer. You see, we’re celebrating as for the first time in
seventeen days I’m not on the battle orders tomorrow. That is the longest
continuous period my name has been on the flying orders. Also, the rest of the
crew has been up on the schedule for a long time. However, none of us are flying
tomorrow, so we just finished off cheese sandwiches and beer. We toasted the
cheese on our stove.
Didn’t receive any mail from you today but will expect some tomorrow. I
hope you are writing very regularly, as that is all I have to look
forward to from day to day. Hope you can find some cheese and send sometime
soon, as I’m getting to be as much a sucker for it as mice are. I also wrote
Mother for some, so if you can’t find any, don’t worry as Mother should be able
to get some with her ration coupons-- or is it rationed?
I now have 18 missions, so brave finally gotten over the bump. From now
on it will be on the down- grade. My last mission was to Linz, Austria—a place
with lots of flak. However on our trip it wasn’t very accurate. Still haven’t
been attacked by enemy fighters, yet. I believe they are afraid of
us—temporarily at least—for which I am so thankful.
No more news to report—except that I’ve been hearing “Let Me Love You
Tonight” very often, and it’s become a favorite of mine. I want to love you
every night—now and forever. Please give your assent and I’ll be
completely and ecstatically happy. I miss you so very, very much, and want to
see you so badly. Only two more days ‘til your birthday and I hope that they all
find you as sweet and lovely as ever. Will think about you and miss you
especially on that day, and wish that I could be there to embrace you and kiss
you over and over again. Please write everyday possible, be good, stay sweet as
ever, and keep smilin’.
All
my love forever,
Jimmy
