Monday Night
April 9, 1945
Hi darlin!
Im
just bubbling over with happiness here lately – three letters from you
yesterday and another today. In addition to this,
Hughes finished his missions today and I flew my 31st one – and – am
up on the schedule for my 32nd one tomorrow. If luck is with me I’ll
finish this month.
Your last letter was
very sweet – as they all are, and I keep telling myself how lucky I am to have
someone like you, writing as often as you do. Please forget my little spells of
lonesomeness when I give you the dickens for not writing. I really shouldn’t,
but I get to feeling homesick and miss you so, that a week without a letter
seems like a month.
Will let you know as
soon as I finish but you won’t have to start watching the trains right away. It
takes a good while to get your orders, ect.
Straightened out, and then you might have to wait for a boat. I may get to go
back with John and Hughes yet. John is still up at Rome, but we expect him back tomorrow. It
would certainly be swell if you were the first one I
saw when I arrived back in the good old U.S.A.
I can’t tell you about
my last mission yet, but will be able to fill you in all you haven’t got when I
see you. Flew as deputy group lead on today’s mission, and am up in the same
capacity tomorrow. We have one enlisted man, our engineer, who has finished his
missions.
Darling, I know this
looks like a poor excuse for a letter, but I have two letters that I have been
putting off to answer. – And it is almost time for me to hit the sack.
Be good, stay sweet and
lovely, and I’ll be seeing you soon.
All my
love,
Jimmy
