Dearest Elizabeth,
Just a note to let you know that everything is O.K. except the mail
situation. Only one letter in the past ten days, which
isn’t so good. I’ll have to blame it on the transportation trouble, for
I know you are writing more often than this.
Well,
John is the first one to finish his missions, flying the last one today. I
wanted to fly with him but the group bombardier said “no.” He’s really a happy
soul, and plans on celebrating tonight. You’ve no idea how you “sweat out” that
last one, and what a relief it is when it’s over. Hughes has 32 now so he will
be the next one of the officers – One enlisted man has 33. I will probably be
up tomorrow as it is my pilot’s (the one I fly with now) turn to lead the squadron.
Will be after the 30th one. Surely would
like to finish in time to go home with John and Hughes, but don’t see any
possibility of it. I really have to “sweat out” my missions.
Went to Easter Services last night in our chapel. We have a
minister from the Church of Scotland officiating. He delivered a brief but impressive
message, and the choir did a wonderful job on special Easter hymns, including Spanish and
a Russian hymn. Saw the weekly orientation films afterwards, which are always
pretty far behind current times.
Well.
I guess that’s all to report for this time. Was up on another
practice mission today.
Am
naturally missing you and loving you always. Please write often, be good, and
stay the sweetest girl in the world.
All my love,
Jimmy
