Dear Mom:

Fortunately we arrived in camp on Saturday night with the whole of Sunday before us to be accustomed again to army routine. After that long train ride of a good 20 hours this army bunk of mine felt plenty good and I took full advantage of it too. I slept until 7:30 this morning and I then had to rush getting dressed to be on time for the 8:00 Mass in our area chapel. I have one regret on this Penecost Sunday. I’m not being present with the Holy Name Society of St Thomas. From the card Mike received while I was at home I gather that today is one of their big days. After Mass I flopped in my bunk again and had a snooze and after a big dinner I did the same thing. I believe I’ve done more than check up on the sleep I lost on the train. I believe I’ve actually stored up some sleep for the future.

Let me know as soon as you can how Eddie is coming along. He was a mighty sick youngster when I saw him and I felt awfully helpless in not being able to help him.

Tonight I intend writing a letter to Mansignor to let him know how disappointed I was in not being able to see him. I was afraid that that was going to happen when we started out for Lake Forest and as usual we missed him. But at least we were out there and he will appreciate that.

Good night, Mom &

 God bless you,

Joe
