Dearest Mom:

There are a couple of pictures enclosed that were taken recently. Both of them have their locale in front of the barrocks. That’s Johnny Hanlon, our mail clerk, standing beside me in the small picture. He’s a lad from New Jersey and as witty as they come, but no soldier. He’s a politician through and through and as good as they come.

By the way did you ever receive the letter in which I asked you to send me a camera? If you didn’t, here is the kind I want, a camera that will take 16 pictures on a roll of 127 film. You will probably be able to buy one of either the Kodak Camera shape on Randolph and Wohach near Jackson.

Saw a pretty good show tonight, “Ship off the Old Block.” It’s a good thing we have shows to help us forget for awhile where we are.

Good night, Mom, God bless you.

                        Joe.
