Dear Folks:
Here I am
once again to drop you a few lines, I am feeling very well and hope all of you
are still the same. I didn’t receive any letters from you today but you see over
here we often have a lapse of a few days between mails. So I will be looking
for some word from you in the next few days. Yesterday I didn’t write to you as
there wasn’t much time. However I did get a V-mail from Ma which I enjoyed
reading very much- it was the one you wrote in the post office and it came out
pretty good, Mame…… Those post office pens aren’t so
good but the writing was very clear. The best part of the whole letter was the
part about Tom’s good fortune. That was very good news and I am very glad for
Tome. I thought he would get a good assignment after finishing so good at the
school in
This is being written in a hurry which will account for the many errors. There will be a soft-ball game again tonight and I would like to join in. But I did want to drop you a few lines since you are so faithful in writing to me.
I will be looking for the box with the soap and tooth powder in it – it will be most welcome over here. We can get the English products but they are not as good as the old American brands. Thanks very much for your kindness and I won’t forget it. The candy by the way is still going strong and I enjoy it very much. There is still a good deal of it left and I am being careful and not wasting it. We can buy one bar of candy a week over here so you can see why I am glad to get some from the other side of the pond. You can send me some more whenever you get a chance to do so-it will always be welcomed.
This letter sounds like I am hungry but that is far from the truth. I just finished a supper of corn, meat, mashed potatoes, rice, bread and am and coffee. Not bad is it ? So don’t be thinking I am hungry.
Well I got a surprise today when John O’Brien wrote me that he was getting married, you probably read about it in the papers. He sure surprised me. He was supposed to get a furlough and get married when he got home.
It is almost game time so I think I will close this letter now. Be good and I will do the same.
Love,
Joe
