Dearest Gay,
My company has all left and it is almost time to feed Tommy so between times, I will see what I can do about writing a letter. I had my first outing today since coming home from the hospital. Mom and I took Tommy to the doctor. It really seemed nice to be out, but I got pretty tired. The baby really showed some improvement today. He gained 5¾ oz. since last Saturday. Dr. Wegner said that was a remarkable gain since he almost doubled the amount they expect a baby to gain in that length of time. They expect them to gain an oz. a day. (That is what they like to have them gain.) He now weighs 6 lbs. 10¾ oz. so he is almost back to his birth weight. I have to take him back next Tuesday. I have to go before feeding time so I can feed him up there because they want to weigh him before feeding and after feeding. (Oh how embarrassing.) I am beginning to feel pretty good again. Of course, I still can’t do much. I bathe the baby, fix his formula and feed him. That is all, but it is enough to wear me out. I don’t help with any of the housework or do the baby’s washing, but I will when I get stronger. I am not supposed to go up and down very many stairs yet so that confines me to one floor. I received 4 letters from you yesterday dated June 24, 25, 26, and 28. I was in the hospital those days, and you sounded so homesick just as though you could feel something was happening. I guess I had better close for now. I love you and miss you.
Lots of love from your Doe and Tommy.
