Dear Elva:-
Your V-mail letter came today and was the only mail rec’d for one week was glad to hear from you and to get the news about the boys, I rec’d also the news clippings from the Register about a week ago they also were very interesting. mail has been very bad lately due I’m sure to the problem of transport it will no doubt correct itself in a few weeks. we are quite comfortable here now have fair buildings at least they are dry and when full is nigh we have a fire the mud is bad but will no doubt freeze up pretty soon. we learn that Pres. Roosevelt is boss again but we do not know how the state of Conn came out of the battle, I hope not to badly. how are all your family and things in general around the tavern I sure wish that I could be home for the holidays but know that’s not possible, we shall make out somehow and most of all hope that our folks at home are well and able to celebrate the holidays as it should be done. Ha. Ha. the last part of your letter is quite interesting better not ask her but let me do the asking or mebbe we wont ask Ill think it over and let you know later don’t forget it though. must close hoping you are well and happy. best of luck to you all and Cheerio.
Yours truly
John.
