Dear Mom & Dad
I arrived O.K. and slept in the tin hut where we stayed at first. The next day we were put in tents with wooden floors. That evening we were put in different tents. That night we were put in another platoon and different tents. We haven’t done anything yet but march. During the day we roll the sides of our tent up and air it out.
This morning we went to chow at 5:30 and stood in a line of boys about a mile long. At 8:30 I got to eat and when I came out from eating they were still going in.
I am not in the 57 Replacement, Company B Platoon 22.
My whole address at the present time is
Pvt. Joe Keller dr. 941049
Tent City, Camp Sejeune
New River, N.C.
I don’t think that they will change it for a little while yet.
You can take that money up in my drawer and put it in the bank. Pick out some of those old nickels and put them in that little nickel bank and put the rest in the bank. After you get it all put in and figured up let me know how much I have in the bank. I just would like to know how much I have.
These tents we live in are about 7 ft. square and nine guys live in each one. When they say fall out you have to jump over the cots to get out.
Well I’ll stop now and try to find a mailbox. I haven’t seen one yet. I hear we are about 18 miles from the main base.
Love your son.
