Dear Mom & Dad
Today has been quite a day. When we got up this morning it was pouring down rain. We put our packs and rifles on and wore our poncho (raincoat) and went on what turned out to be a 22-mile hike. We carried our food in our pocket “C” rations. We stayed on the road, but it was a country road, and we sank in about 3 in. in the mud. We got back at 3 P.M, and had to take a shower and get dressed in our greens, and then they took us to the circus at 4:30. It was pretty good.
Sis sent me the paper yesterday. I sent my “Tie” on to Willie M. It had something in it about him.
Mother, sometime if you can get some chocolates, I wish you would send me a box of Toll House cookies or oatmeal cookies or a cake or anything. I get tired of eating these bought ones and yours are better anyway. Send as many as you can. Also put my Boy Scout knife in the box too if you can find it. If you can’t that’s O.K. A knife comes in handy around here opening things.
How is Spot now?
Where is Daddy gonna keep the trailer in the dry when he gets it finished?
With Love
Your Son,
Joe
