Wednesday
Dear Mother,
Thanx for you many letters, I’m glad to hear that Jack is making that change. Not that I think his having to leave you set-up is any piece of luck, but he can do so much better than that work he’s in now, that’s a one horse job for someone of his capabilities.
I called Hallilen last nigh, she’s coming up to the hospital Friday night by my request – to serve as subject in one of my experiments and to have such a look at the place as one can get at night.
You’ve asked and asked about D.D.H., mommy, I believe that you really like her – and I’m glad. I hear from her constantly. I write fairly regularly myself. It’s a pity that she’s so far away, being lonesome isn’t conducive to the best studying. I repeat, I’m so glad that you like her – I’ve got a lot of hopes tied up in that kid, I think she’ll come through alright. She’s genuinely fond of all the Kings and seems to click with every one of y’all as well. I was having those pictures made for you and something went wrong with the photographer. I’m to get them back tomorrow and I’ll take them to another and get them along to you as soon as it is possible – it’s provoked me as much as it must have you, having to wait for so long.
Time’s a-wastin’ and I’m behind in my work so I’ll call a halt at this point. I’ll ring Audrey as soon as I can see my way clear. I hate to call and then not know when I could get over to see her – I’ll try and organize things so that I can go sometime soon. Right now I’m on accelerated schedule of patients and work with them every day from 9-5 and nights 7-12. The nights I don’t have lecture.
So long,
Gene
