December 1st
Dear Mom-
Got your nice long letter yesterday-No I didn’t understand that you were giving me the $12:50-I thought you meant you would get the things for me and I would reimburse you-Gee that’s a lot of money you’re spending on me-first the birthday gift and now this. I don’t know how to thank you-It really is wonderful that you are able to do all you do with the little you have-I hope that furlough comes soon-I want to talk to you about the allotment-
I didn’t get Daddy’s letter with the $5-Did he send it to Maxton-or Ellis? It may be still on the way but if he mailed it on the 20th it should be here by now-I’ve gotten letters forwarded from both places written after the 20th. I wrote him several days ago and asked for my radio-He told me when I wanted it to let him know-As for the garrison cap-I’d like to have it to wear home on my furlough-(they look so much better) but it is a strong rule here that such hats will not be worn-on or off the post-I’ll get something else I need and borrow a hat to wear home-
I’m on the Ward in the Hospital now-We have about 30 patients-they have broken arms, legs etc-this is rest hour so I have a little time to write now-We’re getting field training as well as hospital training now-I have very little time off-When I am off though there are lots of things to do on the post and in Columbia-I’ve met some very nice people there-One who knew Dr Mitchell + his sons well-He was president of S.C. University once you know-
I haven’t heard any more about ratings yet-Hope they do come out soon-I probably won’t get anything but Pfc. (Private first class) but that means $4 a month - and four bucks is four bucks-
Write soon and often-that’s what helps the day go by-Mail-
Love
Jack-
